A New Definition of Chutzpah

A young woman who works in the welfare office in a certain county received a call from someone requesting food stamps.
What is your annual income? she said.
$175,000
(silence, followed by:)
I'm sorry, but you aren't eligible for food stamps.
I don't see why not!
(looking up SSI data...)
It says here you own two rental properties in New York City and make $6000/mo.
Why does that matter?

    1. Alas, I heard it from the woman who took the call. I have merely abbreviated it.

  2. Ah, but was the call being recorded for quality assurance purposes?

I think you'll need to supply names, dates and telephone numbers, or this story will end up on Snopes anyway.

Nice to know that at the click of a button a bureaucrat in Pennsylvania can find someone's else's property in New York.

    1. It's Snopes. Even with all that stuff, it might end up "debunked" on Snopes.

    2. The office, the date, and the government worker involved are all known to me personally, but have been withheld for reasons of confidentiality. Likewise the paraphrasing. Such calls are not unusual.
