The word choice in Hebrew is deliberate, and it's expounded in Midrash.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-447603865959500290.post-63460819164933100262013-08-04T01:33:55.972-04:002013-08-04T01:33:55.972-04:00This one? I once had a booklet frpm the US Govt listing the state records, and my comments are based on a round of genealogy a number of years ago, BI (Before Internet). Various states have also archived copies of private records.TheOFloinnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14756711106266484327noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-447603865959500290.post-67371920904089720812013-07-19T10:50:23.557-04:002013-07-19T10:50:23.557-04:00I used to have a link to a great article discussin...I used to have a link to a great article discussing the origins of U.S. states registering (and then licensing) marriages around the turn of the century. I've long since lost it and my google-fu has failed me the few times I've gone looking. If you know what's good for you.

It is hardly an insight original with me, but modern society seems to have lost the distinction between tolerance and approval.

I have tolerated divorced coworkers, gay coworkers, socialist coworkers, etc. Tolerate, of course, means "accept without opposition". Tolerance is not now, and has not been for 10 or 15 years, sufficient. Today even private disagreement is double-plus-ungood thoughtcrime, and active acceptance and celebration is the only acceptable response.

I'm old fashioned; I don't want anyone to celebrate my sins, and think that the polite thing to do is ignore those of others unless they ask for feedback.TJIChttp://morlockpublishing.com/the-booknoreply@blogger.com
