On a weekend one of my colleagues from the firm I was visiting took me on a tour of the Naval Museum in Istanbul. Among the displays was a banner that had been captured by Christian forces at the Battle of Lepanto, and subsequently kept in the Vatican Museum. As a good-will gesture the Pope (I believe it was JP II) returned it to the Turks. It made for an interesting display. Despite its age, it was in excellent condition.
