The Numbers Racket

1 comment:

  1. When I was in grade school, I'd come home from school and head for the radio: Jack Armstrong, Tom Mix, Little Orphan Annie, and a bunch of other programs. On the hour, there would be a minute or so of news. The news always included the results at the Laurel (Maryland) race track. I just took it for granted that the results were part of the news. It wasn't until many years later that I learned that the Laurel race results were used by the local Mafia to determine the day's number for the numbers racket.
