    Accidentally, with regard to the Danish professor character, did you know that there really was a Polish historian of certain importance who really was an underground officer (although he didn't look the part - the man was about five feet tall, thin type with bottle-bottom glasses). More, he was simultaneously so respected and hated by the communists that although they couldn't kill him outright (owing to the respect and his standing in the whole of society), they enrolled his wife as an informer. Life's got some strange stories to telll ...
