Deleteb) Galileo did say that, or to that effect, to "Sarsi" during the controversy over the comets. And he did reject Kepler's ellipses because he believed in perfect Platonic circles.
It would be fun, though, to add a few more in there...especially Oresme or Cusa scooping Einstein by a few centuries.
