You know, if you interpret Roman Empire to include the Holy Roman Empire, you could probably make a case for Picture 1. The Russians did do a bit of fighting in WW1, after all, and said Russians presumably did some hacking (as in Picture 4).

DeleteHapsburgs ruling the Austro-Hungarian empire were arguably good enough successors and closely enough allied to the Church to count as Roman. Certainly they are frequently alluded to as such.
