In the Belly of the Whale: Role Call

An excerpt from In the Belly of the Whale, a novel-in-progress, can be found on the book and story preview page, linked on the left. It is one of a series of vignettes introducing various characters. These characters may or may not make it into the final draft.

A new excerpt has been posted at the same link.

  2. Hi.

I've been a regular lurker of your blog for about seven years, though I've never actually commented. I found your post (http://tofspot.blogspot.com/2017/11/medieval-sf.html) about what exactly counts as 'human' to be thought-provoking enough to write an entire crypto-scifi novel based off of it, masquerading as fantasy, though it's still in a pretty rough form.

I think the key that was missing in your analysis was that, to the mind of a Christian in late antiquity, any "man" must be descended from Adam, and I still think that tosses a wrench into Theology when comes to rational animals that even a medieval would see as clearly not descended from any member of Homo sapiens. I have an easier time imagining say, 6th century people having a big freakout if actually transported to another world with non-HS rational animals. Or, at least, deciding that the Christian fall and redemption does not apply to them (rightly or wrongly).

Anyway, sorry for not commenting on the original post, but who knows how easily that would get buried.

  3. Interesting. I wanted you to know how much I enjoy the Spiral Arm and the character Donovan. He's very similar to me. Your stories are uniquely moving for space opera.
