A beautifully told story with colorful characters out of epic tradition, a tight and complex plot, and solid pacing. -- Booklist, starred review of On the Razor's Edge

Great writing, vivid scenarios, and thoughtful commentary ... the stories will linger after the last page is turned. -- Publisher's Weekly, on Captive Dreams

The Ban-Sibhe Wept This Morning

Joseph Francis Flynn
March 1925 -- January 2018

  1. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

  2. Eternal memory! My sincere condolences to you and yours.

  3. May he rest in peace, and may Mother Mary and St. Joseph comfort you and all who love him.

  4. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family. May you all be comforted by the Holy Spirit and your father behold Christ's magnificent face. Prayers for you all during this difficult time.

  5. Prayers for Joseph and your family. I can't begin to describe the degree to which your blog, and your responses in other forums have edified my faith and reason.

  6. So sorry to hear that. I will pray for him and you.

  7. Prayers for you and family.

May he sup in the presence of the Lord in abundance and never thirst.

  8. My condolences. His contributions to this country will live forever!

  9. Your family will be in our prayers tonight. Meanwhile, the last verses of Romans 8.

  10. Much love and condolences to you. Revelation 7:13-17 comes to mind. It's a far-off hope, but a great hope nonetheless.

  11. So sorry to hear this. Prayers for you and your family.

  12. I am lifting all of you up in prayer.

  13. Out of the depths I call to you, LORD;
    Lord, hear my cry!
    May your ears be attentive
    to my cry for mercy.
If you, LORD, keep account of sins,
    Lord, who can stand?
    But with you is forgiveness
    and so you are revered.

    I wait for the LORD,
    my soul waits
and I hope for his word.
My soul looks for the Lord
    more than sentinels for daybreak.
    More than sentinels for daybreak,
let Israel hope in the LORD,
For with the LORD is mercy,
    with him is plenteous redemption,
And he will redeem Israel from all its sins.

  14. All seconded... May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, find pardon and peace.

Dying on the eve of Epiphany -- that seems like a blessed time to go. And it's St. John Neumann's day, so there's a local-ish connection. (The man went everywhere in Ohio and Pennsylvania.)

    1. And who laid the cornerstone for the parish that we attended for most of our family's sojourn.

  15. My condolences, TOF. May eternal light shine on your pere.

  16. My condolences as well. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

  17. Condolences and prayers, and may God welcome him with open arms.

  18. Condolences and prayers. RIP Joseph.

  19. Prayers and condolences for your loss.

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
    Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

    -- John Donne

  20. Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace. Amen.

  21. God rest his Soul.

  22. My condolences on the loss of your father in this World. May the Comforter be with you and his loved ones until you reunite in the next.
